SAS is always finding ways to inspire its employees, its customers and its community. In addition to having our own solar farm (with sheep to keep the grass down of course) we also have on-site bee hives outfitted with IoT sensors.
With art, we have an opportunity to educate the public about bees beyond the basics. Using a combination of real-time hive weight, interior temperature, exterior temperature and audio data, an art piece could bring what is outside, inside.
Inspired by the sun’s glow on a field of flowers and wheat in the morning, the sculpture brings the beauty of nature inside for viewers to enjoy and examine.
Weight and temperature data from SAS’ beehives is collected by IoT sensors and SAS® Event Stream Processing and, along with data from external sources, is analyzed and fed to a sculpture made of more than 249 flower-shaped lights atop poles (stems) of different lengths. The entire piece resembles an 18-foot-long field of wildflowers, and the ever-changing data is represented visually through lighting changes in the “flowers.”
Presence uses AI to produce forecasted data in addition to the actual data. The closer the forecast is to the real value, the more smooth and graceful the sculpture becomes.
